Changemaker, visionary, social impact founder…2022 Fellow David Lopez of Gritly shares more about his #RuthlessForGood journey.
What propelled you into the entrepreneurial space? And what do you enjoy most about being a founder?
I wanted to be the change that I wanted to see in the world. I LOVE interacting with our students and the ability to build solutions as we see fit for our stakeholders based on their feedback.
As a BIPOC founder, Camelback understands that the struggle is constant, what motivates you to get up every day and keep on fighting?
I understand that the problem that Gritly is solving is much bigger than ourselves. Like Brother Nate (Nathaniel Taylor, 2022 Camelback Fellow and Co-Founder of Endazhi-Nitaawiging) said, if not me, then who? If not now, then when?
Tell me about an experience you had as an entrepreneur or in starting your company that exemplified one of Camelback’s core values: “Belief in Mission + Vision”; “Unafraid of Failure”; “Constant Learner”; “Humble + Hungry”; and “Give First.”
As a Constant Learner, we have adapted every aspect of our business at least twice. We listen to our advisors and investors and make changes based on stakeholder feedback. I’m sure we’ll continue to make changes and adapt as needed, and I’m excited to continue to evolve.
As a social innovator, what legacy do you hope to leave behind for future generations?
I want my legacy to show kids in marginalized communities that they can go out and build the version of the world that they want to be a part of. I want to show them that you can be successful despite having all the odds against you from day one.
What’s your favorite book or podcast that you draw entrepreneurial inspiration from?
I love the book The Hard Things About Hard Things by Ben Horowitz and the All-In Podcast because of the different perspectives that are offered from each of the hosts.
What do you hope to take away from your Camelback Fellowship Journey?
